Eligibility for Spouses & Children of Deceased Veterans

Military Service | Special Programs | Spouses & Dependent Children
State Residency | Wartime Periods

The surviving spouse and surviving dependent children of a deceased veteran may be eligible for certain WDVA benefits if the veteran met state veterans’ eligibility requirements. Dependents are not eligible for the VetEd tuition reimbursement grant.

Generally, adult children of a deceased veteran are eligible only if they are under the age of 26 and attending school full-time at the time of application and receipt of benefits.

The spouse or child must be a state resident and living in Wisconsin at the time of application.

Spouses of eligible or specially eligible veterans may also become Members in a state Veterans Home. The applicant must be a Wisconsin resident on the date of admission to the Home and meet the applicable program requirements for admission to the Home.

Spouses and dependent children of veterans who were eligible for burial also may be interred in state veterans cemeteries.
